![]() ![]() Click on the Pie button in the Charts group and then select a chart from the drop down menu. This option is the pie and exploded pie types in three dimensions, tilted slightly away from the viewer for a more dramatic appearance. Select the Insert tab in the toolbar at the top of the screen. Each box tells which color represents which grade. Like the small grade icons at the bottom of the chart above. This adds a quick color key to the pie chart that tells which color represents what. The only difference is that the breakup of the combined slice is shown in a separate stacked bar, instead of a separate pie. The bar of pie subtype is almost the same as the pie of pie subtype. Select the chart, and then Design tab, Layout tab, and Format tab appear in the far right of Ribbon. This chart is great for emphasizing specific data it's demonstrated in the next chapter. With this subtype, you can break out one slice of a pie into its own, smaller pie (which is itself broken down into slices). While the steps are the same as shown above (unless noted), the screenshots will vary based on the Excel version you use. ![]() Select the chart type you want to use and the chosen chart will appear on the worksheet with the data you selected. This technique uses the ordinary pie subtype, as explained in the next chapter. Then click the Insert tab, and click the dropdown menu next to the image of a pie chart. For that, right-click on the chart area and select the chart type option. So for that, you need to change the chart type. The resultant column chart will appear as follows. Usually, Excel charting mavens prefer to explode just a single slice of a pie for emphasis. Select the entire data and use the shortcut key F1 to create a column chart. The name sounds like a Vaudeville gag, but the exploded pie chart simply separates each piece of a pie with a small amount of white space. The basic pie chart everyone knows and loves, which shows the breakup of a single series of data. When the new pie chart is inserted in your worksheet, you may want to go to the Design tab > Charts group, and try different pie chart styles to. If you create a pie chart that uses one or more negative values, the negative values will be converted to positive values-which is probably not what you intended!
